Traffic noise

LÄRMKONTOR GmbH conducts noise measurements and calculations for all types of traffic noise. This includes the analysis of existing sources of noise impact along streets, railway tracks and at airports as well as the calculation and forecasting of sound immissions for future traffic situations within the context of planning activities.
In addition to the actual documentation and presentation of the traffic noise situation, as, for instance, in connection with the noise mapping conducted with respect to the EU Environmental Noise Directive, the planning of new traffic routes and the related noise protection measures are usually the reason to conduct an acoustic assessment. However, LÄRMKONTOR GmbH also conducts the planning of noise protection and its extent and design along existing traffic routes in connection with noise remediation and noise action planning for streets and railway tracks.

Acoustic forecasting in area development planning

LÄRMKONTOR GmbH also provides acoustic reports regarding traffic noise immissions for land use plans, zoning plans and development plans. We strive to create solutions that are as practice-related as possible which also includes that we keep a close eye on the cost-benefit ratio. Our partner ARGUS Stadt- und Verkehrsplanung provides analyses regarding traffic data.

Comparison of variations and routes

LÄRMKONTOR GmbH conducts comparative calculations for different planning variations in connection with traffic projects. The variations are evaluated from an acoustic perspective and assessed, e.g. in view of the residents that are affected. If necessary, noise protection measures are suggested and analysed with respect to their effects.

Assessment of affected parties according to BImSchV 16

LÄRMKONTOR GmbH analyses the acoustic impact when new traffic routes are built or when they are relocated. Depending on whether major changes or a substantial structural alteration as defined by the traffic noise directive are to be made, the load on the uses located within the affected area are assessed and possible noise protection entitlements are ascertained.

Environmental compatibility studies

LÄRMKONTOR GmbH analyses noise immissions and air pollutant levels generated by different sources (road and rail traffic, companies). In addition to the planned variation, the initial situation (zero variation) is evaluated in order to present and assess the acoustic differences.

Dimensioning of noise protection walls

Noise protection walls are an effective tool to reduce noise that is generated by linear sound sources in such a way that the limit values are met at the place of immission (residential construction, hospitals) that is to be protected.
LÄRMKONTOR GmbH offers consulting in the planning and the realization of these noise protection measures on streets, railway tracks and buildings. The effectiveness of such measures is monitored through acoustic calculations. The results serve as a basis for recommendations with respect to dimensions and cost-benefit considerations.

Effectiveness analysis of noise-reducing street surfaces

In recent years, there has been considerable progress in the development of “quiet” street surfaces. Not only the rolling noise on streets with a speed limit above 60 km/h has been improved, but the situation on streets with considerable lower speed limits is also getting better continually. In addition, the durability of such “new” street surfaces has increased substantially, provided they are applied correctly.

Due to the improvements mentioned above, new noise reducing street surfaces are gaining significance when it comes to building new streets, but also in connection with noise remediation and noise action planning (section 47 BImSchG a-f). LÄRMKONTOR GmbH evaluates the effects of noise reduction street surfaces.

Forecasting of traffic scenarios

In order to compare major traffic scenarios, LÄRMKONTOR GmbH compiles expert reports on the individual acoustic effects. In cooperation with our partner ARGUS Stadt- and Verkehrsplanung we offer a comprehensive range of services that includes the analysis, forecasting as well as the assessment of traffic scenarios. It is possible to evaluate various measures within the fields of traffic channelisation and traffic flow and to assess them acoustically.
