The directive 2002/49/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of June 25, 2002 about the assessment and abatement of environmental noise is a concept provided by the European Union on how to identify the effects of noise and how to avoid them. LÄRMKONTOR GmbH has contributed substantially to the integration of the Environmental Noise Directive into German law. In addition, LÄRMKONTOR GmbH has created defining guidelines how to meet the requirements of the Environmental Noise Directive with respect to technical and planning aspects for the Federal Government and the European Commission.
In order to meet the legal regulations, strategic noise maps and appropriate noise action plans have to be created, usually by the communities in charge. This material had to be assembled for the first time in 2007 and 2008. An update has to be conducted every 5 years.
