Noise mapping and action planning

The directive 2002/49/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of June 25, 2002 about the assessment and abatement of environmental noise is a concept provided by the European Union on how to identify the effects of noise and how to avoid them. LÄRMKONTOR GmbH has contributed substantially to the integration of the Environmental Noise Directive into German law. In addition, LÄRMKONTOR GmbH has created defining guidelines how to meet the requirements of the Environmental Noise Directive with respect to technical and planning aspects for the Federal Government and the European Commission.
In order to meet the legal regulations, strategic noise maps and appropriate noise action plans have to be created, usually by the communities in charge. This material had to be assembled for the first time in 2007 and 2008. An update has to be conducted every 5 years.

Strategic noise mapping

In Germany, strategic noise mapping is conducted in accordance with BImSchV 34 and the calculation methods presented therein. There are different calculations methods for road traffic noise (VBUS), rail traffic noise (VBUSch), industrial and commercial noise (VBUI), air traffic noise (VBUF) and the number of parties affected (VBEB).
LÄRMKONTOR GmbH conducts noise mapping on a national as well as an international level when commissioned by the public authorities in charge. Strategic noise mapping is carried out for small communities, towns, city regions and entire federal states and frequently presents the results to the public to meet with legal regulation regarding public information.

Noise action planning

In cooperation with the cities and communities in charge LÄRMKONTOR GmbH sets up noise action plans based on the noise mapping results. We offer complete noise action plans as well as individual noise action plan elements such as impact analyses (e.g. with regard to the LärmKennZiffer (noise reference code) method), assessment of measures or public participation as well as consulting services. Depending on the volume or the questions raised, we may cooperate with our partners LK.ARGUS GmbH and konsalt - Gesellschaft für Stadt- und Regionalanalysen und Projektentwicklung mbH in order to provide these services. In connection with the implementation of the first level of the Environmental Noise Directive LÄRMKONTOR GmbH has drafted or participated in the development of as many as 60 noise action plans.
In addition, we create noise action planning manuals, facilitate events and work on national and international committees and conduct research projects.
